Member Agencies

Mission Statement
The Mission of the Shelby County United Fund is to mobilize and organize individuals who will strive to improve the quality of life in Shelby County through the solicitation of volunteer resources and financial pledges on an annual basis, the administration of those resources and pledges, and the review of the services paid for by the pledges raised as compared to the ongoing needs of Shelby County.

Scuffy Overview
What: SCUFFY stands for Shelby County United Fund for You. SCUFFY is a fund raising organization formed for the purpose of conducting one fund drive per year to support several worthy member agencies.

Why: SCUFFY was formed to prevent "over solicitation" of the community, to reduce competition for funds among social service agencies in the county, and to release the member agencies to concentrate on services to the community rather than fund raising.

When: SCUFFY was formed in 1954 and has conducted a successful drive every year since. The drive generally kicks-off on the first Wednesday of March and generally ends the first or second Wednesday of May.

Where: SCUFFY funds are solicited from corporations, organizations, and individuals in Shelby County. The funds are reserved for the aid and service of Shelby County residents only.

How: SCUFFY's fund drive is conducted entirely by volunteers with one full-time paid executive director in the office year round and one part-time paid administrative assistant. Generally, eighty-five to ninety percent of the funds collected are used to support the member agencies. The remaining ten to fifteen percent is used for salaries, drive expense, and administrative costs.
