 We often say that volunteers are the "lifeblood" of SCUFFY. One of the reasons that SCUFFY is able to keep its administrative costs so low (85-90% of funds raised go directly to member agencies, with only about 10-15% used for salaries, drive expenses and administrative costs) is that SCUFFY has only two paid employees, a full-time executive director and a part-time administrative assistant. All of the other work of fundraising, publicity, planning, etc. is done by volunteers.
From our 15-member board of directors, to the solicitors for our annual fundraising campaign, to those that staff our special events like the Roadblock and Fun Run, everyone is a volunteer. We estimate that it takes over 200 volunteers to run our fund drive every year. Even our Giving From the Heart day, is about volunteers. On that day, community volunteers from local businesses, service groups, churches and schools, come together for a day of volunteering at SCUFFY's member agencies.
